The Language of Leaves
As the days get shorter and the last leaves fall to the ground, our project of "The Language of Leaves" moves in a new direction; this month, we listen.
In September, we wondered what stories the leaves might tell us through their changing colors, textures, and curled edges. In October, we practiced looking closely, asking "I notice… I think… I wonder…" at every leaf we discovered.
Now, we will turn our curiosity to sounds, exploring leaves in a new way.
The Sound of Leaves
This month, our project focuses on onomatopoeia, the words we use to imitate sounds, like the crunch of a dry leaf, the whisper of the wind, or the swish of a leaf falling to the ground.
We'll explore and listen closely to the different sounds leaves make, experiment with how those sounds turn into words, and eventually bring them together to create our very own poetry. Along the way, we'll discover how each sound feels, and keep wondering what the leaves might be telling us about the changing season 🍂
