The first week of the after school program was a success! The after school program started at 3:30pm with the snack. Until 6pm, the children had so much fun and the time was just too short! We have art program every Thursday and in this September we are doing Eric Carle study. We looked at Eric Carle's illustrations and discussed what kind of techniques he might use for his books. "Some paintings look like he used a roller!", "Brushes!", "Fingers!" The children gave all different kinds of interesting guesses when were were flipping through the pages. So, we decided to experiment on our own. Scraping the paint with the cardboard edges on the paper made something similar to Eric Carle's painting! The children loved using the cardboard edges. One child thought the sponge was " magical". And...this child was very fascinated about the design of the last page of the book. We all enjoyed the vibrant colors, bold brush strokes, soft sponging effects, and using the recycle materials creatively!
