Hokusai's The Great Wave off KanagawaWe started the first Asian art project with Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa (1830~1833). The children were very interested in the fact that this intricate work is actually a print work. Long time ago, Hokusai carved the wood blocks for each color and made this beautiful master piece.
The children first practiced a lot of times to draw the great waves. Bravo to our 2nd grader L! He practiced to draw the waves a lot of times and finally came up with this awesome piece. He was very proud of his work. The preschoolers did the same theme as well. It was the collaboration work with the teacher. The waves were drawn with the white oil pastel so they could see the waves as they were painting and the teacher made this roaring waves with the oil pastel. The children were so excited to see how their work has been transformed to something like the original work in a large scale. They were very proud of their contribution in this collaboration piece!
